When we were children, our parents and elders would always tell us to not give in to peer pressure. Usually, they would talk about it in the context of drug use or drinking alcohol. Personally, I have never been in a situation where I have been peer pressured into those activities. I cannot even recall a memory where I have been peer pressured into doing anything honestly. However, I do understand the idea of conforming to others in society. There are societal rules that we all follow without realizing it. They aren’t spoken rules, but they exist.
When I graduated high school, I did feel some pressure to go to college even though I hadn’t thought through all my options. This pressure did not come from a particular person. It was just a general feeling that came from society and probably my family. I am currently completing my senior year of college. Now, I feel some pressure about attending graduate school. This is something I have been thinking I would not do, but with graduation approaching, I feel some pressure. This pressure comes from other students who are going to be going to graduate school and from society. I still have not decided what I will be doing yet, but I wish I did not have to feel that pressure that comes with deciding.
